Rakugo performance by Mr Shinosuke Tatekawa (Performed in Japanese only)

Tatekawa Shinosuke graduated from Meiji University. From 1983, he studied under Tatekawa Danshi after working for a theatrical and advertising company. He became a full-fledged performer in May 1990, and was also awarded a cultural art festival prize in the same year.

Gagaku Concert

Gagaku began in the tenth century and it is the oldest Japanese classical form of music and dance. The word ‘Gagaku’ originally means music for the people of the world.

Movie Outing

This will be our first ever movie outing in 2010! (And hopefully not the last.) Movie will be Nodame Cantabile Finale 前編! We hope that most of you can go for it.

Kenji discovers his summer job is to pretend to be Natsuki’s fiance, for the celebration of Natsuki’s spunky grandmother’s 90th birthday. There, he receives a strange math problem on his cell phone and he can’t resist the challenge of solving it. As it turns out, his solution creates chaos within the virtual world of OZ, translating into anarchy in real-life.

The Japan Creative Centre and the Japanese Cultural Society are pleased to present a one-night only performance by Mr. Baisho Matsumoto, a Japanese Shamisen master and his troupe. The shamisen is a traditional Japanese musical instrument which has been around since the late 16th century. Since then, its distinctive sound has gained huge popularity amongst the Japanese and foreigners alike.

We had a meeting on February 8 (Monday).

Our agenda on Monday was:
1. Japan Week (We’re asked to run a Japan Pavilion during our school’s Kaleidoscope this year, Apr 1st!)
2. Introduction to JCC blog! (Anyone interested to submit a post? — you can write about your favourite aspect of Japanese culture etc. Contact me for more details!)
3. Interested parties filled out JENESYS form for Japan trip.

The opening slide~ (aka we forgot to take photos)

This was held on 25th January 2010, in the hour before flag-raising, at the Boulez Room (kindly opened by our dear new teacher-in-charge!). Though we didn’t have full attendance (not that we ever did), we… or well, I hope we had a good time.

Things that we did:

1) Introduce our club to the new members. (You can find the PDF of the Keynote here.)
2) Did a round of self-introduction
3) Informed members of some of the stuffs that will be happening for the year 2010.

Exciting news that we found out today:

a) Tea Ceremony workshop will still be on — we have to decide on the date!
b) There will be a Japan Trip in June, and an exchange/immersion in a Japanese High School! Price is temporarily set at $2500, and students can tap into their internationalization fund to pay for part of the cost. If you haven’t used it at all, you get $600 for Singaporeans, $400 for PRs) and if you still have any money in your Edusave, you can tap on it too (just call the edusave hotline to check the balance 62600777). Extra information thanks to our dear Deborah~!
c) Y5s will have to prepare for the YOG cultural booth. Great opportunity to showcase our passion and interest!
